Good news, everyone! A powerful game engine has recently gone open source — compilgames.net/. It's called Game Develop and it's event-driven, almost no coding required! I would like to start a small project for us to create a 25-or-50-levels-long 2D platformer (called B-Woox) with that engine, I'll provide most of the pixel graphics! I want to realize the following WIPs (works-in-progress) for this 2D platformer: B-Woox WIP1, B-Woox WIP2 and B-Woox WIP3. RavMahov, I'm looking at you! Please contact me, so that we can start the project! Everyone else is also welcome to join with new ideas, suggestions, code, graphics, etc. It will be a completely open source game, of course, if you're wondering about the licensing matters. P.S. Here's a small pre-pre-alpha DEMO with the cat character (S)Quirky: link.

Ok, it's a really nice one. I don't have any knowledge of coding, but I could maybe share some ideas 'bout the enemies. Because platform game doesn't exist w/o enemies.

Feel free to share your ideas about enemies. We also accept pixelart graphics and artists who submit such art to the project will be credited in the game (or in a CREDITS.txt file that comes with the game).

How about me? Can I join? I could make levels! I've practised for years to make PK2 levels!

Plus, I don't even have PK1 Link on the left. Original PK1 doesn't work on x64 WinVista/7/8. Yeah, mapping is not really convenient, but you could download the basic levels and then use MS Paint to rebuild them using already existing pixels. I've never had any people interested in mapping for JSPK, so I didn't work on the level editor (it would be simpler than PK2 one, though, with only one layer).

How about me? Can I join? I could make levels! I've practised for years to make PK2 levels! Hey, thanks a lot for volunteering! OK, I'll give you the task of creating some of the levels for the game when it has matured enough only to require the creation of levels (I'm still working on the graphics and on the mechanics/events). You're encouraged to make 2D sprites as well, but do notice that most of the sprites for the game are monochrome, i.e. black-and-white *only*. Though I will include colored sprites as well, as long as they are good enough (subjectively speaking). Here's WIP4 of the game showing some of the enemies (and bosses) that you'll meet in-game as well as the (currently) 15 weapons of the game: sahwar.deviantart.com/art/B-Woox-WIP4-495250755. I really like how I drew that tiny black giraffe! ;D

Plus, JSPK1 kind of runs buggy on my Windows 7 Ultimate (64-bit) machine using the latest Mozilla Firefox 33 web-browser.

I checked out the levels, and I couldn't do that (Pixels as sprite? Really?). Sahwar, you should make a level editor, or else making levels is gonna be too hard.

(Seriously, at least it could be like Minecraft(Pixely, but colorful))

And are you gonna sell it? (Hope not. ) That's why we can't get nice things. You don't want SahWar to buy something nice for himself after all the hard work he's going to put in his game? Or maybe you want him to starve, so that he can't show us his brilliant gamedev skills?

Most of the sprites will be black-and-white, but on the whole the game will be in color. Is it 256-color? Or Windows 7 compatible color? And are you gonna sell it? (Hope not. ) It's going to be either 32-bit (16 777 216 colors) or 256-colors, probably the first, but most of the main sprites will be black-and-white or with just a couple of colors. The game won't be commercial. It will be both free as in freeware AND free as in open-source, I'll release all game files (i.e. the source code) for free and I'll also release all the game graphics under a Creative Commons license. And are you gonna sell it? (Hope not. ) That's why we can't get nice things. You don't want SahWar to buy something nice for himself after all the hard work he's going to put in his game? Or maybe you want him to starve, so that he can't show us his brilliant gamedev skills? Thanks a lot for the support, but the game won't be a commercial one and I really can't earn a lot even if I tried to sell it commercially, which I won't. I won't starve either, since I have my parent to provide me with money until I find myself a paid job to support myself financially, so the starving isn't going to happen any time soon, don't worry.
