There is no such a thing as "stupid question". In fact, we can't be able to know if anything exists. What if everything was just a hallusination of a man who is bleeding to death? Or if we all were just some thoughts of brain locked under some glass dome? It's not sure that we exist, at all. The only thing that exists for sure is thoughts. There must be thoughts because "we" wouldn't think if there weren't.

Then, we could suppose we exist because if we didn't, the world would become a bit borigh, wouldn't it. But if this all exists, does it exist all the time? If a tree falls down, does it make a sound? If nobody can't here the sound, does it exist?

How would we define "sound"? If sound is just some energy waves come out because of physics, yes, sounds exist. But if sound is a subjective experience of hearing those waves, sounds don't exist when nobody hears.

Does this clear something up?
