Here are some ideas, improvements, suggestions etc.:
1. Let's accept that there will be a level editor in the future. Janne can add bigger texts in levels. For example, someone is makeing a level. He place a sign and edit it's text. So when player find this sign (ie Pekka move throug the sign), a transperant window appears with the text. This may use to improve the story, or to tell something about the autor of the level, or for some secrets in the level, or for some joeks and fun etc. There are already similar signs, but with very specific function and text.
2. Further, Janne can make a friendly characters. They somehow can interact with player (Pekka). They will walk around, but Pekka can't kill them. When Pekka moves closer to one of them, by pressing the up key (for example) they will telling him something or give him something.
3. Janne can add and shops. When Pekka found a shop somewhere in the level, he will be able to buy a new doodle, eggs flowers, butterflys, feathers or some secret, or opening doors, or different abilityes (for example invisibility or transformation). Buying may require to add coins around the levels to collect. Instead of adding annoying coins, there can be some objects that Pekka can collect, so he will be able to trade them in the shop.
4. Doors. When Pekka stands in front of a door, by pressing the up key will make him to move in other place in the level (like teleports).
5. When player dies, he need to press the Enter key. You may add pressing other keys to do that too (for example spacebar!). Or, when the player dies, a menu appears with the following available options: restart level, world map, options, exit etc. So player won't need everytime to go to the world map.
6. By pressing the escape key during the game in a level, a menu appears. By pressing the escape again, the game exits. I suggest that by pressing the escape again won't exit the game, but will close the menu and continue the game.
7. All the levels so far are one after another. There is no really availableity for chosing a level. Here is an example of makeing that possible. Player beats level 2. Then, he will be able to choose from two levels (3 and 4). Beating one of them will progress to level 5. So players won't need to finish both levels, but the one who they found easyer or interesting or something. Later, they can turn back and play the unplayed level.
There also can be non story levels that player can choose to play them too. For example, player finish level 6. Then he will be able to choos from two levels: level 7 and one other level. The other level may be a bonus level, a secret level, or a level just for fun and scores. In one way I think to go to a secret level is to find an object or objects in a level, which are verry hard to find. Once Pekka collect them and finish the level, he will be able to "open" the secret level, wich will appears on the map (it won't apeears until then).
8. Music box. This is something that can be add for fun in the options menu. Everytime player opened a new level with new music, the track will apeears as a bonus in the music box.
9. Ability to change doodles and eggs. When Pekka found more than one different doodle and/or egg, he will be able to choose between them by pressing number keys (1,2,3etc.). My suggestion is: moving objects in invetory by pressing the "<" and ">" keys. Moving doodles by "[" and "]". Moving eggs by ":" and """.
10. Pekka Kana sometimes can finish levels with feather or other objects in his invetory. But he loose them in the next level. I suggest that he can be able to save his objects and play with them in the next level. However, a good idea is Pekka's health to be always full in the beginning of every level
.
11. Talking about health, there may be something that can add more health points for Pekka, instead of only thre hittings.
12. I don't know what is the maximum size of the maps, but if there is a limit, I really hope that ins't that small. I found some of tha maps briliantly good! Yes that's true! I just love the design and the view of maps! However, some of them are just getting interesting and then you found the exit. I mean that some of them are not enough big. At a first time, this is not that bad, but d**n! I wish Castle of keys to be a little more big! After the Indiana Jones part more specifically. And Factory 1. And Factory 2...
13. There is a bug. When I switch between applications by pressing the alt+tab key on win98, the game just crash.
14. Top scores in the main menu.
That was all. And now something that I'm dreaming and hopeing for the future of Pekka. A new epizode with new enemyes and musics. It will include all new christmas levels in snow and ice. An egiptian tribe peizode. Multiplayer DM and CTF. Level editor which can do except makeing levels and maps, new characters, enemyes and sprites. Ah...
