PekaED - A modern Pekka Kana 2 level editor
What is PekaED?
PekaED (Pekka Kana EDitor) is a modern level editor for Pekka Kana 2.
Features include:
- Testing your level directly from PekaED!
- Managing your episode in the editor
- Zooming in and out
- Modern features like MP3/OGG support (with the correct version of the game)
- Loading the last episode you've worked on, to pick right back up where you left off
- Partially transparent layers, see the background layer when you're working on the foreground
- Easy placement of the level on the overworld map (Or like this, if you imported/created your episode in PekaED!)
- Support for a custom MAP.bmp, you can see how the map will look like in game, in the editor. While placing your level!
- A manual that documents and explains EVERY feature that's in PekaED
- Export your episode directly from PekaED
- And many more...

What's the difference between PekaED and the official level editor?
PekaED runs perfectly fine on modern operating systems, has no limits for custom content (you can have as many custom tilesets, backgrounds, music files, etc. as you like!) and a bunch of features that make creating levels with it a whole lot more convenient than the original editor.
PekaED has been developed with the Pekka Kana 2 community!
The community has helped A LOT during the development. This editor has features that were specifically requested by the community. A community that has a lot of years of experience creating levels, for Pekka Kana 2.
Special thanks to the people on the Discord server, for their testing and bug reporting. I wouldn't have been able to test PekaED as well as you guys did!
Which operating systems does PekaED run on?
It runs on anything that runs Java.
At this point in time, Windows (7/8/10) is the only operating system that is supported "officially". You can run it on Linux and MacOS, but the experience may not be as good as on Windows and you could possibly encounter problems. PekaED has only been tested on Windows. A Linux version MAY be released officially at some point in the future, but no guarantees.
PekaED is not that demanding of a program and should run fine on pretty much any hardware, that is like younger than 10 years. I can't test this, though. So, I encourage you to test it out, if you run older hardware. It should run fine.
How you can help
First of all, PekaED is open source!
github.com/Detea/PekaED
The code isn't pretty, but it gets the job done.
Creating software like this is a pretty complex task and eventhough PekaED has been thoroughly tested for bugs there probably are still some in there. If you've found a bug, please report it here:
github.com/Detea/PekaED/issues
Of course PekaED also has a manual, that is written in english by a non-native speaker. So of course there are going to be grammar mistakes and maybe even spelling mistakes. If you've found something like that you can report it here:
github.com/Detea/detea.github.io/issues
If you know english and one or more languages, you can translate the manual!
Here are the instructions on how to do that.
How does X work and how do I do Y?
If you have any questions about a specific PekaED feature, or just want to know about every feature PekaED has to offer, please take a look at the manual.
The manual also lists all of PekaED's keyboard shortcuts. Keyboard shortcuts make creating levels even faster!
If you have a question the manual doesn't answer, post your question in this thread or join the Piste Gamez Discord and @ me directly (deta ).
Download the latest version
Make sure that you have the latest Java version installed. You can get it right here.
Java version 1.7.0 is, at this point in time, the minimum required version.
