I forgot to mention that you should NOT run DxWnd with the second method. That F4 thing might have to do with intercepting errors or Alt-F4. F4 works for me (in the version I have on screenshots in the first post). The most stupid thing that might cause the problem could be the broken Alt button By the way, Merry Xmas! A broken Alt would probably cause every program to shut down when pressing F4. Not probably, will. XD

A broken Alt would probably cause every program to shut down when pressing F4. It's definitely not the alt key being stuck for at least two reasons: a) the keyboard was made in such fashion that it's almost impossible for anything to get stuck inside, b) I tried different shortcuts involving the alt key (like alt+tab) and they worked only when I held the alt button. I've visited, like, a ton of websites to find an answer. They helped partially but the d**ned f4 keeps shutting things down no matter what! Anyway, I'll keep searching.

Ok, I have managed to disable ALL windows shortcuts and that apparently helped - editor doesn't shut down when opening sprites menu. Thank god. Thanks to everyone who tried to help. I'll be back to making maps then! Btw. just two more levels

That's still an interesting problem, so be sure to post again if you pinpoint the cause.

As someone has graphics from NVIDIA, the graphics are normal, but when loading is slow down and the characters do not rotate, they are directed to the right. And as someone has graphics from AMD, the graphics are slightly degraded but the characters are rotated. On the recording, you can not see. These problems are happening in the system vista and 7. Do PK2 fires up without any problems under Windows 8.1?

BTW: At least on Win8 + dxwnd you can alt + tab PK2 or editor without causing the shut down of those softwares. Unfortunately the mouse clicks and other stuff happen in the game or editor at the same time you (for example) organize your deskopt. PS: Can somebody modify marq's texts to more understandable. Oh wait... we have no moderators or admins. This poor forum is forgotten...

@marqxdtcz It shouldn't work any better on Win 8.1 than on Win 7, but I haven't tested it so I cannot be sure. BUT, I've read that it doesn't run at all without DxWnd (at least on Win 8). xyard he wrote about the sprite horizontal swap problem (Pekka running backwards instead of turning left) on Nvidia cards (I've experienced it on Win 7 too, but not on XP on the same machine). It seems that legacy functionality implementation in Nvidia drivers is worse than the AMD one. And slowdowns are probably caused by palette shifting which was "free" back then, and is pretty expensive now (you need to do some tricky things, like redrawing all of your sprites on each change, or better, having your own framebuffer and store sprites as palette indexes/indices instead of RGB colors... thanks for the idea by the way). Edit: My almost -absolute zero post

I've managed to get this game working at full speed on Windows 8.1. I've learnt that this game does not like being windowed, or maybe DxWnd does not like putting Pekka Kana 2 in a window... Anyway, the compromise is to run the game in "windowed-fullscreen" mode. By selecting the "Desktop" option in the "Position" section of the "Main" tab, DxWnd will show the game in full-screen, but with the ability to switch to other windows. I've uploaded a copy of my settings here, for anyone else who would like to try it out. Open it in a text editor and correct the Path (path0) value, or add it to DxWnd and modify its path to the correct one.

DxWnd does some tricky stuff to emulate the surface, that's why it's slower. Screenshot of the settings would be nice, too.

Awesome, that should be enough for most of the users to configure it properly. Thanks.
I've edited the first post to include that screenshot, with credit of course, I hope you don't mind.

Can someone link the preferred settings for level editor? I custom-made a pretty smooth export file for running both PK2 and the level editor, works like a charm PK2 is windowed, runs fast on my PC,(60 FPS) I had the level editor windowed too, but it was way too small for me to see the fonts and comfortably make levels, so I made it fullscreen Pekka Kana 2.dxw (434 B) PK2 Level Editor.dxw (524 B) Just open DXWnd, click on 'File', then 'Import', open up those two files, and change the path and launch to the game folder, and you're done

Nice job ahnafabdullah27 ! Hahaha, thanks a lot, RavMahov! I'm now trying to take this a step further and make a package installation where a user could easily install PK2 with DXWnd and run the game as fine as butter, the only problem is I'd be stuck with the same path, and the user would have to manually change it.
